Kjostad Lake fishing information
Kjostad Lake is located in Buyck between Orr and Crane Lake. Kjostad Lake is about 438 acres in size and has maximum depth of 50 feet. Walleye have been stocked numerous times over the last several years. The surveyed showed some fish to be as large as 25.7 inches. The northern were as large 33 inches. Bass and Crappie are in the lake also.
The lake is better known for Bluegill. The MN Dnr survey in 2012 shows. Bluegill trap-net abundance was 5.11/set, which is the second highest catch rate on record (highest being 20.92/set in 2002). Coincidently, the 2002 catch does reference seeing many spawners and spawning was not witnessed at the time of the survey in 2012. Lengths ranged from 3.4 to 8.7 with a mean of 7.2 inches. Seventy six percent of the catch was larger than 7 inches. Mean weight was 0.30 lbs which is above the 75% of other similar lakes.
Kjostad Lake Area information
Superior National Forest and Kabetogama State Forest lands touch the lake or are in the area. The Arrowhead snowmobile Trail is not far from the lake. There are a couple roads that go to the lake. If you get tired of fishing on Kjostad Lake, Voyageurs National Park and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area are down the road. Pelican Lake and Orr are the other direction giving you another large lake to explore.
Kjostad lake seldom has sales. Most of the cabins on the lake are handed down from generation to generation.
